10,000 Lakes Regional – AMAZING SUCCESS!

10,000 Lakes Regional Chairman's Winners!

We had an amazing regional this weekend, with some disappointments but lots and lots of highlights. We would like to thank all of our mentors FIRST of all because without them this would not be possible. Continue reading to find about many of our highlights and details of the weekend.

Wednesday night a couple of students packed Mr. C’s car and Young’s Pick Up truck with tons of stuff for the pits. We went home to get rest for what was going to be a long weekend. Thursday was a good day as we quickly set up a clean pit. We passed inspection on the first try with a weight of 117.8 lbs. We even made three practice matches.

One of the highlights of the regional was watching our head coach Mr. Gene Jasper be completely surprised by winning Outstanding Volunteer and the Woodie Flowers Award.

Another highlight was watching the rookie team that we mentored, 4021 go on to be chosen as the first seed alliance, and win Rookie All-Star, which earned them a trip to Champs!!!

However the best part of the regional was being recognized as the Regional Chairman’s winners. This would mean that we would be competing at Champs, and travel with 4021 for an epic season event.

Here is the script that the judges wrote for announcing the Chairman’s Award.

The Regional Chairman’s Award was created to keep focus of the FIRS Robotics COmpetition on FIRST’s ultimate goal of transfroming our culture in ways that will inspire greater respect for science and technology, and to encourage more young people to appreciate the real life rewards and career opportunities in those fields.

The Regional Chairman’s Award honors the team that, in the judges’ estimation, best represents a model for other teams to emulate, and which embodies the goals and purpose of FIRST. IT is the most prestigious award presented at this regional competition. The winner of this award will be invited to the FIRSt Championship where it will compete for the Chairman’s Award against the winners from all the other regional events and the winners of the District/State/Regional Championships.

And now, here’s what the judges have to say about this Regional Chairman’s Award team…

This team truly deserves this prestigious award, their achievevements other teams should strive towards. Although a RIVER may divide, ROOKIE MENTORING the did provide, With a team quite DIVERSE, a STATE BOUNDARY they did traverse,  Organizing YEAR ‘ROUND activities galore, this team kept the pedal to the floor, Future FIRST GIRLS were in their sight, this team showed a STEM future so bright, This team took a big STEP up this year, to inspire students in STEM careers.

Please join us in congratulating a team who is STAMPEDING forward to spread the mission of FIRST.

President’s Day Weekend – A Weekend of GREAT Progress

Introducing… Ariadne

Stampede Robotics' 2012 Rebound Rumble robot

After six weeks of building, Stampede Robotics is honored to introduce Ariadne. There still are minor adjustments that need to be made; however, we are very proud of all that the students and mentors have accomplished.

This weekend, Stampede sent scouts to the Simley scrimmage, while the build team stayed at Breck, working on the robot, and helping Courage Center team 3524 practice. The team has clocked so many hours in the past weekend, let’s count just for fun.

Thursday: 3:30-9pm, Friday: 3:30-12am, Saturday: 8:30-8pm, Sunday: 10-5 and today, 3:30-8pm.

Below you will find pictures of both scouting from the scrimmage, and students hard at work.

We would like to thank our mentors and students for all their hard work and all the hours they put in. We are very excited about the progress made, and it couldn’t have been done without everyone’s support.

Today we are putting on finishing touches, and we are practicing driving. We also expect Armstrong Cooper’s team to visit and play a little scrimmage with our game pieces. Should be a lot of fun.

Final Push

It’s the final push for the Stampede team! The bot’s deadline is Tuesday, which means it needs to be finished, wrapped up, and prepared to ship. We’ve been working hard, with Darius on the code, Young on the bumpers, Maddie keeping the shop clean, Sung-Rim helping in the field house preparing game pieces, and Taylor and Reilly blogging.

Today, Stampede Robotics is preparing the game pieces for the Courage Center and Cooper teams, in order to allow them to practice.

Taylor is also preparing the Girl Scout workshop that is to be held on March 3rd at the University of Minnesota. This workshop is designed to inspire girls to enter the STEM fields, and become involved in FIRST by introducing them to tomorrow’s female engineers.  She is also preparing a 45 minute presentation for the centennial Girl Scout celebration at the Mall of America, in which 50,000 girls are expected to attend!

The team is also happy to announce that both the Chairman’s and Woodie Flowers’ submissions were completed, and now all that’s left is preparing the presentation!

Stampede would like to thank all of our sponsors, and mentors/families who have put their life on hold for these past six weeks of building. We truly appreciate all the hard work you do and all your support.
